The depth of the love of parents for their children cannot be measured. It is like no other relationship. It exceeds concern for life itself. The love of a parent for a child is
continuous and transcends heartbreak and disappointment.
I knew before watching this movie that it was going to be within my top 10 favorites films because of Director, Christopher Nolan.
Currently, on Flixster/Rotten Tomatoes it received a decent rating of 72% (Critics) and 85% (Users).
I’m putting this warning out now… There maybe a couple spoilers thrown out there. This movie has been out for a while, so any excuses you have are invalid. :)
This movie takes place in what appears to be a present day but semi-apocalyptic world. Where dust storms are so common, it is killing our crops and our health.
We are running out of food sources; the only food that the ground is able to grow is corn but the question is…for how long?
Cooper (McConaughey) was previously a engineer/pilot, now due to the current world crisis he is a farmer. He and his daughter (Murphy) has been receiving these ghostly messages that give them the coordinates of a undisclosed NASA location. When Cooper arrives at NASA, he finds out that there was a program ten years earlier called “Lazarus Project” where 12 brave souls went into the black hole, that took them to a new solar system with the potential of a new planets to call home, and where we could technically leave our dying Earth.
Cooper then is given the choice: Leave his family and travel to the edges of space to save them, or Stay on our dying planet, and we parish.
Well not to throw a spoiler out there…. Of course he goes into deep space, and Black holes with wormhole vortex’s.
1.) New York Yankees are a traveling baseball team that plays in high school baseball diamond?
Wait… What?!?
What happened to the MLB? and who were they playing against? LOL
2.) Who really sent the “FIRST” message.
There were couple of scenes that could have been when the messages were sent.
There was a gravitation anomaly that affected Cooper when he was flying an aircraft in opening scene, and there was also another time when all the tractors were pulling up to Coopers farm house like something was directing them there.
Which one was the first “Message” that was sent by them for Cooper?
Another name could not have been chosen other than word that is used to define something enormous/giant?
Its just like the name of the mineral “Unobtanium” in Avatar.
Now, on to what I LOVED about this movie!
Quotes:
“We used to look up at the sky and wonder at our place in the stars. Now we just look down and worry about our place in the dirt”.
“Once you’re a parent, you’re the ghost of your children’s future.” “Do not go gentle into that good night. Old age should burn and rave at close of day. Rage, rage against the dying of the light”.
Scenes:
I do not want to give any too much, but there is so many scenes that are memorable. From being heart touching to heart breaking, Christopher Nolan does not disappoint!
This movie really is about how far you will go for loved ones, and that cost that comes with it.
This movie is so beautifully made, and Nolan researched and collaborated with Kip Thorne (American theoretical physicist) to ensure that this movie would be as realistic as possible, and he did not disappoint.
Another thing that I love about Christopher Nolan movies; He creates this amazing world, sets the foundation and storyline for you, but towards the end its more of an opened ending. This way you could pick any ending you imagine, maybe even inspire your imagination to make it go further after the theater screen fades to black.
You can never complain saying.. I hate how that movie ended, because technically it is up to you to decide the fate of the characters.
Chris’s Rating : 9.75
Stina’s Rating : 10 (it’s a Nolan film, what would you expect)
Suitable for a Date: YES
Suitable for Children: Kids under 11 would get bored.
Suitable for Girls Night Out: Sure, Matthew McConaughey is in it :)

We’ve always defined ourselves by the ability to overcome the impossible. And we count these moments. These moments when we dare to aim higher, to break barriers, to reach for the stars, to make the unknown known. We count these moments as our proudest achievements. But we lost all that. Or perhaps we’ve just forgotten that we are still pioneers. And we’ve barely begun. And that our greatest accomplishments cannot be behind us, because our destiny lies above us.
